Chef's Assistant - Part-time, Evenings

Rivermont Collegiate is a co-educational, independent school offering an exclusively college preparatory program. Its eight and one-half acre campus is located on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River in Bettendorf, Iowa. Founded in 1884, Rivermont is the only Preschool through 12th Grade college preparatory, day, and boarding school in the Quad Cities.

Summary

The Chef’s Assistant is responsible for the planning, preparation, and service of evening meals for international boarding students as well as staff Dorm Parents five times a week. This is a part-time job with approximately 20-25 hours per week and two consecutive days off (to be determined at hire). The goals of this position are to provide healthy menu options with focus on quality, taste, and variety. The boarding student demographic is multi-cultural; the ideal candidate will have varied culinary skills and knowledge of ethnic, international, and intercontinental cuisines.

The Chef’s Assistant is an integral part of the residential community and boarding experience at Rivermont. A successful candidate must possess strong inter-personal skills with an ability to build rapport with culturally diverse students and adults.

Relationships

The Chef’s Assistant reports directly to the Kitchen Manager/Chef. The Finance Director supervises and supports kitchen operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborating with the Kitchen Manager/Chef on menus as well as daily preparation and cleaning schedules.
  • Stocking and taking inventory as needed.
  • Maintaining standards of sanitation, safety, production, service, and food quality.
  • Managing/planning service for the evening dinner for approximately 20-30 boarding students and staff.
  • Prep work, cooking and cleaning
  • Maintaining compliance with all mandated health codes and applicable laws.
  • Working with the Kitchen Manager/Chef to adhere to the food budget.
  • Possess an attention to detail and a passion for cooking.
  • Assisting with occasional school special events.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with students, dorm parents, faculty, and supervisors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager/Chef.
  • Strong attendance and punctuality are a MUST to ensure that the duties and responsibilities of the job are
  • performed successfully.

MIddle & Upper School Social Studies Teacher - Full-Time

Rivermont Collegiate is a co-educational, independent school offering an exclusively college preparatory program. Founded in 1884, Rivermont is the only Preschool through 12th Grade college preparatory, day, and boarding school in the Quad Cities. Rivermont uniquely incorporates an international student boarding program into a traditional PK-12 day school. 

Summary

Rivermont Collegiate is searching for a full-time social studies teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. The ideal candidate will be responsible for planning and instructing middle and upper school students. Each full-time faculty member at Rivermont Collegiate is required to teach, serve as an advisor or mentor, and perform regular duties in support of the residential program. In addition, faculty members are expected to contribute positively and productively to a campus community that promotes the development of intellect, character, and creativity.

Relationships

Each faculty member reports to the Assistant Head of School and, ultimately, the Headmaster. Faculty members work in conjunction with PLC team leaders, the Dean of Students for disciplinary issues, and the Director of Residential Life for residential responsibilities. The Social Studies teacher will work with others in the department and across other disciplines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Classes may include survey and seminar world history and/or geography classes for both middle and upper school students, AP social studies courses, and electives in areas of specialization.
  • Supervision of Residential life recreational activities twice per semester.
  • Attend all faculty meetings, department meetings, and other meetings as required.
  • Attend school functions as well as special events.
  • Actively participate in all in-service and orientation days.
  • Assess student learning using a variety of means and use other forms of academic communication in a timely manner.
  • Promote the development of intellect, character, and creativity in all dealings with students, including enforcing school rules and policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
