Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the application process take?
There is not an easy answer to this question. Each application is unique and the answer will mostly depend on how quickly all the required forms and documents are submitted. The whole process can take anywhere from three days to three weeks.
When will you know if there are openings in my child’s grade level for the following school year?
March is our re-enrollment month when we ask current families to let us know if they plan on returning the following year. Generally by early April we know how many spots we have open in each grade and are ready to start accepting new students for the following school year.

When will I find out if my student has been accepted?
Once all of the steps in the application process are complete, the Admissions Committee will meet to discuss the application. This process typically takes two to three days. You will be notified as soon as a decision has been reached.
Are you currently accepting applications?
Yes! We operate on a rolling admissions cycle, meaning we accept applications year-round. If the school year is already underway and we still have openings in a particular grade level, we can take new students at any time.
Is there an entrance exam?
We do assessments for all applicants. The Early School assessment is done primarily through observation. We are looking to make sure the student gets along well with others, can stay focused on the same task for more than a few minutes, and can be redirected when necessary. There are no academic requirements for entering Early School. For Lower School applicants, a short academic assessment is done. This may be done during a prearranged testing time. For Middle and Upper School applicants, an assessment test is given by the Director of Student Services/College Counselor, who will spend a few minutes getting to know the student and then will proctor the assessment. Depending on the visit day schedule, this longer assessment may be given during the visit day or during a separate, prearranged testing time.
Can my child visit the school?
Absolutely! As part of the application process we generally require your child to spend a day with us in order to experience Rivermont firsthand. Your child will be paired with a “buddy” for the day who will make him/her feel right at home. If the application comes in over the summer, we may invite your child to join a Summer at Rivermont course, if possible.
Where do Rivermont families live?
We have students from both Iowa and Illinois. Some families drive as much as 45 minutes to get to us each day. We currently have families from over 19 different zip codes across the greater Quad Cities, as well as several international students!
Is there a sibling discount?
Yes! For information on the Sibling Tuition Discount, click here.
Do you offer tuition assistance?
Yes! We have a need-based tuition assistance program starting in Kindergarten, to families who meet the criteria. For more information, click here.
What is the comprehensive fee?
Nobody likes surprise fees that pop up during the school year. That’s why we combined most of our yearly administrative service fees into one sum charged at the beginning of each year. The comprehensive fee covers the cost of most field trips, Parents’ Council dues (everyone is a member!), and more.
Is there a dress code?
Rivermont does not have uniforms, but we do have a dress code. Students are expected to be well-groomed and wear clothing that is clean, in good repair (no holes, frayed hems, or overly worn fabric), and fits correctly. For complete details on the dress code, click here.
Do you offer before and after school child care?
Yes! For a small fee, students may be dropped off as early as 7:00 a.m. (7:30 a.m. for Early School) and picked up as late as 6:00 p.m. For complete details, click here.
Do you offer transportation services?
Unfortunately, we do not offer bus service, but many of our families have made carpool arrangements to make school transportation easier. With students from 19 zip codes across the greater Quad Cities, it’s very likely a Rivermont family lives close to you!
Do you have sports?
School-sponsored athletics begin in 5th Grade. The Rivermont Lions compete against other schools in the area, such as Morning Star Academy, Faith Christian School, Eagle Ridge School, Camanche High School, and numerous others. Specific sport programs depend on student interest, but basketball (boys and girls), volleyball (girls), track (boys and girls), cross country (boys and girls), rowing (boys and girls) and cheerleading (boys and girls) are mainstays. We also have a cooperative athletic agreement with Bettendorf Middle and High School, through which Middle an Upper School students interested in a sport not offered at Rivermont may try out for and participate on the Bettendorf team.
How do I buy my student’s books?
Textbooks are purchased by families and are yours to keep at the end of the school year. Early School families do not need to purchase textbooks.
In Lower School, families are responsible for purchasing the required textbooks, Rivermont will only purchase the consumables. The school has a limited supply of books that are available for purchase on a first-come, first-serve basis. Books may also be purchased through online sources or used from other parents.
In Middle and Upper School, families do not pay a book deposit. Prior to the beginning of the school year, Rivermont issues a list of textbooks Middle and Upper School students will need. Books may be purchased through online sources or used from other parents.
