What is a Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR)?

While most colleges and universities require applications to include direct transmission of transcripts from the high school, some colleges and universities will base admissions first on self-reported grades and test scores. These schools do not want test scores and transcripts mailed, Faxed, or emailed until the student has been accepted on the basis of self-reported grades and scores. After the initial acceptance, the transcripts are requested.

The University of California system of undergraduate universities operates in this manner.

Further examples: The University of Illinois uses the SRAR and recently the University of Pittsburgh decided to use self-report for the Fall 2016. Students will need to check each college/university application requirements. The SRAR is used for cost effectiveness and will probably be increasing in use.
