Rivermont Gets Grant To Help Garden (Bettendorf News)

Rivermont Collegiate has received a $300 grant through the Iowa 80 / CAT Scale Go Iowa Fund. The grant will be used for the Rivermont Community Garden in Bettendorf and help purchase replacement topsoil, pots, seeds, starter plants, and other tools and equipment.

Rivermont’s chapter of the National Junior Honor Society started the garden in 2011 and it has since expanded to include a greenhouse. Students work to plant, cultivate, and harvest fruits and vegetables, most of which are donated to a local food pantry. Leigh Ann Schroeder is the community garden faculty advisor.

The Iowa 80 / CAT Scale Go Iowa Fund was established by Iowa 80 Truckstop and CAT Scale Company. The fund makes grants that benefit Iowa-based charities, Iowa activities, or to organizations that have a presence in Iowa.
