Wow, the year is really starting to pick-up pace as we run into the home stretch with only six weeks remaining until commencement. As we approach the end of the school year, please keep a watchful eye on our School Calendar and announcements as there are a myriad of events, student performances, and activities occurring on campus every week.
Over the next several weeks, I will be previewing a few items that we are working on for next the academic year. I thought a great place to start may be in looking at some Middle and Upper School curriculum additions for next fall.
In terms of the Upper School, we are adding classes in Advanced Placement (AP) Chemistry, Forensic Science, Statistics, and Astronomy to our already diverse lineup. We are also continuing to refine our Upper School English curriculum. Western Illinois University professors will be leading our new Mathematics and Science club in September. And our highly successful first year Educational Partners, College 101 course and longer Internship programs will continue to evolve as we strive for innovative ways to prepare our graduates for College.
The Middle School schedule continues to be refined with additional time being allocated to Mathematics and English Arts. We are looking to add another Science elective to the Out of Box lineup, with Future City an interactive engineering/science project. Similar to First Lego Robotics League, students structurally design, build and present their own city. Just think of SimCity, but in real life! More details to follow about this exciting new program over the next few months. Our energetic Music and Drama team has been busy revising their curriculum strategy for next year to include weaving interested 8th grade students into the Upper School Theater program.
Next week I'll highlight the incredible work being done in the Lower School.
