Kitchen Manager

Rivermont Collegiate is the #1 Private School in Iowa. Our students range from 2-year old to 12th grade with a total enrollment of approximately 200 students, and 52 staff members. Rivermont Collegiate is launching a 7-day boarding program in the fall of 2017 which will require meal service including 3 meals a day, Monday – Friday, and 2 meals a day, Saturday and Sunday (brunch and dinner). Meal service will be shared between the Kitchen Manager and 2 kitchen staff members.

The Kitchen Manager and Lead Chef at Rivermont Collegiate actively participates in establishing and maintaining an atmosphere of collegial support and adherence to professional standards in the food industry.  Responsibilities include leading a kitchen staff and delivering a varied and healthy menu that caters to the tastes of children, teenagers, and adults alike. The Kitchen Manager and Lead Chef reports to the Headmaster and is asked to do the following:

  • Maintaining a budget while working with the business office
  • Setting menus while ensuring meal options include sound choices that adhere to our multi–cultural students and staff, and their beliefs
  • Ordering food and supplies with attention to the nutritional and dietary needs of students
  • Stocking and inventory
  • Maintain standards of sanitation, safety, production, service, and food quality
  • Inspect equipment periodically, recommending needed repairs or replacement
  • Manage/plan service of 3 meals per day during the week (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
  • Manage/plan service of 2 meals per day on weekends (Brunch and Dinner)
  • Prep work, cooking and cleaning
  • Maintaining compliance with all mandated health codes and applicable laws
  • Collaborating with the Business Office to ensure the point of sales system operates correctly and records correctly for billing
  • Attention to detail with a passion for cooking
  • Occasional catering for school special events
  • Supervise kitchen staff, and maintain relationships with vendors
  • Ability to effectively communicate with students, faculty, parents, fellow workers and supervisors personally, via phone, email, and in writing. Maintain good public relations
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Headmaster
  • Successful candidate must possess strong inter-personal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students and adults
  • Strong attendance and punctuality are a MUST to ensure that the duties and responsibilities of the job are performed successfully
  • Depending on scheduling between Kitchen Manager and staff, some evenings and/or weekends will be required

Rivermont Collegiate, an independent, nondenominational, college preparatory day school for preschool through twelfth grade students, seeks an aide for its afternoon and daycare programs. Hours are Monday-Friday 3:00-6:00 p.m. Rivermont Collegiate follows a traditional school calendar.

Substitute Teachers - Ongoing

Rivermont is currently accepting applications for substitute teachers in all grade levels. Rivermont offers challenging curriculum, small class sizes, and motivated students – all in a warm, supportive atmosphere. In addition, substitutes at Rivermont enjoy a flexible schedule, competitive pay, and a weekly pay schedule. Qualified applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree in addition to a passion for working with children, exceptional interpersonal skills, an energetic personality, and a positive attitude. First Aid, Mandatory Reporter, and/or Bloodborne Pathogen training is preferred and applicants must pass a background check.
